2. Axiall, Lotte Chemical break ground on $3B Louisiana plant
Axiall Corp. and Korean firm Lotte Chemical on Tuesday broke ground on a new $3 billion chemical plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The facility, located near Axiall’s existing plants, will include a $1.9 billion ethane cracker and a $1.1 billion monoethylene glycol plant. Both plants are expected to start up in 2019.

6. Praxair plans $100 million CO expansion at Geismar plant
Praxair will spend more than $100 million to expand carbon monoxide production at its Geismar, Louisiana, plant, the company announced Wednesday. Praxair will add a 13 million standard cubic feet per day CO purification train that will include a cold box and other upgrades that leverage the company’s proprietary technologies.

Air Liquide today marked the completion of a $230 million upgrade and expansion project at its Bayport industrial complex near Houston.
8. Calumet marks completion of $450M Montana refinery upgrade
Calumet Specialty Products recently completed a $450 million project at its refinery in Great Falls, Montana. Via the Great Falls Tribune, Calumet added a new unit to process heavy sour crudes, a hydrocracker, a hydrogen plant and a fuel gas treatment unit.
9. OyxChem plans $145 million expansion at Geismar plant
Occidental Chemical (OxyChem) today announced it would spend $145 million to add refrigerant production equipment to its Geismar, Louisiana, plant.
10. GTL firm plans new methanol plant in Marcellus shale
GTL firm Primus Green Energy recently announced plans to build a 160 MT/day methanol plant in the Marcellus shale play. Primus said in a statement its standardized modular GTL systems would be used to convert Marcellus natural gas into methanol to serve local customers.
