It is exceptionally rare to offer comprehensive operational support in the O&G industry for over seven decades.
Seventy-two years after it was founded, PSC Group now operates at 175 plants, refineries and terminals in the U.S. Few companies can match PSC’s safety record, breadth of experience and operations scope. PSC has delivered a TRIR of 0.25 or below for seven consecutive years.
PSC has gained a reputation for consistent operations, focus on safety and environmental protection. Plant owners contract with PSC to save money and improve safety and operations. PSC has an extensive track record at handling myriad products and modes of transportation, allowing it to operate efficiently and save customers money. As its customers grew and focused on their core activities, PSC’s work volume also expanded significantly. Today, PSC is responsible for:
- 80,000 marine transfers per year
- 1 million railcars and trucks loaded per year
- 15% of all railroad tank cars in transit at any time are loaded/unloaded by PSC
- Plastic resin volume loading and switching is operated by PSC at 40 of the 60 largest production plants in the U.S.
PSC also builds careers; 85% of all leadership promotions are internal candidates. Its workforce has grown to over 5,000 fulltime employees in the U.S.
Along the way, PSC leadership realized that achieving success in challenging plant environments also enabled the company to excel outside the plant within its customers’ supply chains. As a result, the industry now looks to PSC to solve some of its most pressing supply chain problems.
Examples of supply chain services:
- PSC’s railcar repair/inspection crews operate in 38 states, Mexico and Canada.
- PSC’s crews are fully certified to clean and requalify tank cars in rail storage yards around the country. PSC services railcars wherever they’re located.
- PSC’s Operation Clean Sweep Sustainability crews clean up, reprocess and recycle plastic pellets from the largest petrochemical complexes, keeping 100 million lbs/yr out of landfills.
- PSC’s facilities transload, drum, store and ship liquid chemicals and blend, extrude, clean and recycle plastic for its best and oldest customers.
History of PSC Group
Originally established as Petroleum Service Corp. by D.H. Haymon in 1952, PSC Group began as the first shoreside tankerman service in the U.S. Haymon also had a day job. He served as the superintendent of marine operations, docks, tank farms and fuel blending at ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge refinery, which was the world’s largest refining complex at the time.
Before long, plants and refineries began talking to Haymon about technical support in marine, rail and other hazardous materials handling operations. He realized the industry needed an operations contractor working adjacent to a plant’s employees and taking care of all product movement operations in the facility. PSC has spent the last 72 years building on that vision.
As it strives to meet the needs of a growing and changing industry, PSC’s focus remains unchanged — "to be the best at what we do." Inquiries about operations and supply chain needs are welcomed. The goal is to learn from one another.
