From the vantage point of leading the Industry Business Roundtable, I view the Safety Excellence Awards® (SEA) as far more than a recognition program. It is one of our most impactful mechanisms for elevating safety performance across the O&G, petrochemical and broader energy industries.
At its core, SEA represents a shared commitment to continuous improvement. It brings asset owners and contractors together as partners aligned around a common goal: achieving world-class safety outcomes. While recognition is important, the real value lies in what participants learn, how they benchmark themselves and how openly they share effective practices.
In that same spirit, IBR is placing strong emphasis this year and next on improving the SEA process itself. We are refining timing, scheduling, categories and audit consistency to better reflect current standards and emerging best practices. While many participants are familiar with the traditional approach, there is a clear and shared vision that it is time to evolve. We are actively listening to our members and partners and will make thoughtful adjustments to enhance the experience for all stakeholders. Making it more streamlined, efficient and valuable.

Through a two-step process, documentation review followed by on-site audits, we ensure safety programs are not only well-designed but effectively implemented in the field. Audit teams, led by asset owners and supported by industry peers and safety professionals, validate that execution aligns with intent. This is where accountability is realized.
For asset owners, SEA provides a deeper, more meaningful view of contractor safety performance beyond traditional metrics.
