The Dutch Department of Public Works intends to award the contract for the salvage of the wreck of the car carrier Baltic Ace to Boskalis and Mammoet Salvage.
The wreck and its cargo need to be removed because they pose a threat to the environment and to shipping on the busy route towards the Port of Rotterdam. The Department of Public Works expects the definitive signing of the contract in the second half of March. Execution of the project is expected to commence in the course of 2014 and will be completed before the end of 2015.
The activities include the removal of the entire wreck, its cargo and 540,000 liters of fuel oil for which a diving support vessel, tugs, barges and sheerlegs will be deployed. Both companies will contribute to the operations with their own specialist salvage equipment.
More information about the project will be available after the signing of the contract.
