Chevron today announced a new oil discovery in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico approximately 140 miles off the Louisiana coast. The Anchor prospect is Chevron’s second discovery in the deepwater Gulf in less than a year. Chevron and BP announced in October they found oil at the Guadalupe prospect about 180 miles from the Louisiana coast.
The Anchor well is located in 5,183 feet of water and was drilled to a depth of 33,749 feet. Chevron said appraisal drilling will begin this year.
