Duke Energy will invest $500 million to acquire and build three solar power facilities in North Carolina. Duke also signed power-purchase agreements for five new solar projects in the state. The projects will have a combined capacity of 278 megawatts.
The plants to be acquired by Duke are located in Duplin, Wilson and Bladen counties. The 65-megawatt Warsaw Solar Facility in Duplin County is the largest solar photovoltaic facility east of the Mississippi River.
Duke Senior Vice President Rob Caldwell said the new facilities and purchase agreements represent a 60% increase in the amount of solar power available to its North Carolina customers.
