White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest today said President Obama would not sign a Republican-backed bill that would approve TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline. Via Fox News, Earnest said the president will allow the State Department to complete its review of the pipeline before deciding whether or not to approve the project.
Two bills — each of which would use the authority of Congress to regulate interstate commerce to approve Keystone XL — are under consideration in the Senate and the House, respectively. Congressional leaders would need a two-thirds majority to override the president’s veto.
