The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the construction and operation of Dominion Resources’ Cove Point LNG export facility in Calvert County, Md. It is the fourth LNG facility approved by the commission, and the first such project located on the East Coast. The Cove Point facility cleared FERC's environmental review in May.
The LNG export facility will be built at an existing terminal site on Chesapeake Bay that was built in the ‘70s. Construction is expected to cost between $3.4 billion and $3.8 billion and create thousands of construction jobs and 75 permanent positions. Dominion has already secured purchase agreements for the full capacity of the facility from buyers in Japan and India.
