Shell Chemical on Tuesday broke ground on a $717 million linear alpha olefins plant at its Geismar, Louisiana, site. The addition of the new unit — the Geismar site’s fourth — will make the facility the world’s largest single-site producer of alpha olefins. The project is expected to create 20 new direct jobs and 1,500 construction jobs at peak building activity. Startup is expected in 2018.
