Occidental Chemical (OxyChem) today announced it would spend $145 million to add refrigerant production equipment to its Geismar, Louisiana, plant. Construction is set to begin next month and completion is expected late next year. The project is expected to create 12 new jobs as well as 37 new indirect jobs in Ascension Parish.
OxyChem said the expansion would enable it to produce next-generation refrigerants with low global warming and ozone depletion potential.
