Mexichem on Thursday said the $1.5 billion joint venture ethane cracker it is building with OxyChem at the latter’s facility in Ingleside, Texas, is on track to start up in the first quarter of 2017. Construction of the 1.2 billion-pounds-per-year cracker began in the second quarter of 2014. It will supply OxyChem with ethylene to manufacture vinyl chloride monomer, which will be used by Mexichem to produce PVC resin and piping systems.
