Japanese chemical company Kuraray will open its new chemical plant in southeast Houston later this month, the Houston Chronicle reports. Kuraray America CEO George Avdey said in an interview the plant has already begun producing sample polyvinyl alcohol. He also said that while the plant is in startup mode, it may not reach its full production capacity of 40,000 metric tons per year until late 2017.
