GTL firm Primus Green Energy recently announced plans to build a 160 MT/day methanol plant in the Marcellus shale play. Primus said in a statement its standardized modular GTL systems would be used to convert Marcellus natural gas into methanol to serve local customers. The company is planning four other methanol plants in North America with capacities ranging from 160 MT/day to 640 MT/day.
Investments in U.S. methanol projects have swelled in recent years amid the abundance of cheap natural gas.
