Formosa Plastics secured key EPA permits for planned upgrades at its Point Comfort, Texas, chemical complex. Formosa is adding a third olefins unit, a low-density polyethylene unit and a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit. Formosa will also add two new GE 7EA gas-fired turbines, each with the capacity to generate 80 megawatts of electricity. Via Chemicals Technology, the olefins unit and the PDH unit will increase the Point Comfort plant’s ethylene production capacity to approximately 1.75 million tonnes per year.
