Reuters reported today that ExxonMobil is considering adding a third crude distillation unit to its 344,600-barrels-per-day refinery in Beaumont, Texas. Sources told Reuters ExxonMobil may boost the refinery’s capacity to at least 500,000 barrels per day, which would make it nearly as large as the company’s Baton Rouge, La., refinery. The company could, however, expand the Beaumont refinery’s capacity to between 700,000 and 800,000 barrels per day, making it the largest refinery in the U.S.
ExxonMobil is also planning to replace four coking unit drums in 2015 and add two new drums in 2017 at the Beaumont refinery, Reuters reports. An ExxonMobil spokesman declined to comment on any specific plans to upgrade the Beaumont refinery.
