ExxonMobil Chemical today announced it had begun construction of a new multibillion-dollar ethane cracker at its Baytown, Texas, facility. The unit will have a capacity of up to 1.5 million tons per year. ExxonMobil is also build two new 650,000-tons-per-year polyethylene lines at its Mont Belvieu, Texas, plastics plant.
ExxonMobil said the ethane cracker project would create 10,000 construction jobs and 350 permanent jobs at the Baytown plant.
