Chevron Phillips Chemical will move forward with a plan to increase polyalphaolefins (PAO) capacity at its Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown, Texas, by 20%, the company announced today. Chevron Phillips said the expansion would help it meet increasing demand for high-performance lubricants in automotive and industrial applications.
Feedstock for the project will be provided by a recent 100,000-metric-tons-per-year normal alpha olefins expansion at Cedar Bayou. Construction will begin in April and startup is expected by mid-2017.
