Chevron Phillips Chemical today announced it would study expanding low viscosity polyalphaolefins (PAO) capacity at its Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown, Texas. The expansion would add 10,000 metric tons per year of PAO capacity to its current capacity of 48,000 metric tons per year. Chevron Phillips has notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality of the project and will seek regulatory approval in the second quarter of 2015. The company hopes to complete the expansion in 2016.
Chevron Phillips’ board of directors in June approved expanding normal alpha olefins capacity at Cedar Bayou by 100,000 metric tons per year.
