Like the famous scene from the 1967 movie The Graduate, "I've got just one word for you, young man: plastics", these versatile materials are more than components.
They are precision solutions that resist corrosion, withstand extreme conditions and enable innovation across every industry they touch. Few companies embody this spirit of innovation like 4B Plastics in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Founded in 1979 by the Baker family, 4B Plastics has spent nearly five decades on the cutting edge of plastics technology. Built on principles of quality workmanship, rapid delivery and unparalleled service, the company serves clients in petrochemical, aerospace, semiconductor, pulp and paper, defense, laboratory, medical and prototype manufacturing sectors.
Engineering custom solutions at speed
As the first compression molder of PTFE in the Southern U.S., 4B Plastics offers full custom manufacturing and in-house machining. This is how we've maintained such high quality and rapid turnaround. To put it simply, we mold our own billets in-house up to 30-inch OD and spin thousands of small parts up to the 52-inch seals for the Hoover Dam. We also sell raw PTFE billets and can supply them machined to size if needed. Our in-house molding capabilities extend beyond virgin PTFE to include glass-, graphite-, carbon- and Inox (stainless steel)-filled PTFE, as well as our custom Cerlon (ceramic-filled) formulation. From these materials, we do both manual machining and full live tooling computer numerical control (CNC) machining and milling of finished machine parts.
Expert guidance for every plastic challenge
Our seasoned staff have extensive backgrounds in the plastics industry, as we machine most plastics on the market, even though PTFE is our main area of production. Our sales and production staff provide accurate and sound advice, helping to solve mechanical or corrosive plastic issues. In 2016, I had the opportunity to purchase 4B Plastics, a decision I have never regretted. Our diversified business model includes making PTFE full-face and ring spacers, Kynar® polyvinylidene fluoride and PolyPro pipe spacers and thin annular gaskets via CNC router tables. Clients include 390 petrochemical plant chains across the U.S., 164 middleman vendor groups supplying OEM and custom machined plastic parts and 124 valve shops relying on recreated PTFE components. When a replacement part, valve seat, body gasket or V-ring packing set is needed, waiting six to 12 weeks is not an option. 4B Plastics specializes in rapid delivery, with 87% of orders leaving the shop within three days of purchase order receipt. Over the past seven years, the company has supported the rapid expansion of new industrial and petrochemical plants nationwide. If your operation is expanding, 4B Plastics would welcome the opportunity to quote your needs. Visit the website to view a complete list of services and short videos.
