Duke Energy on Friday announced it would move forward with the construction of a new 750-megawatt natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant in South Carolina. The plant, which was approved by state regulators last month, will be built on the site of Duke’s existing coal-fired Lee Steam Station site in Anderson County. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2015, with commercial operation set for November 2017.
Duke also announced last week it would build a $1.5 billion gas-fired plant in Citrus County, Fla.
