The U.S. has passed Russia as the world’s largest producer of oil and gas, according to the “BP Statistical Review of World Energy,” released today. The U.S. recorded the largest oil production growth in the world in 2014, with an increase of more than 1.6 million barrels per day. The U.S. also recorded the world’s largest increase in natural gas production, growing its output by 6.1%. In addition, the U.S. became the first country ever to grow its oil production by more than 1 million barrels per day for three years in a row.
U.S. net oil and natural gas imports fell to their lowest levels since 1985 and 1986, respectively.
