-Eastman Chemical will begin a planned turnaround at its Longview, Texas, plant later this month. Via the Longview News-Journal, Eastman said the largest part of the work would occur at hydrocracking plant No. 4 — the site’s largest cracker. Plant No. 4 was temporarily shut down in March due to severe weather and again in July due to a pipe failure. An Eastman spokesman said the upcoming work has nothing to do with the prior shutdowns.
-The Department of Energy today granted Cameron LNG final approval to export natural gas — the final federal authorization the project needed to move forward. The DOE also granted a final export license to Carib LNG, a smaller project that will ship natural gas to Caribbean and Central and South American countries from Martin County, Fla.
-Huntsman Corp. received approval from the European Commission to acquire Rockwood Holdings’ titanium dioxide assets for $1 billion, Bloomberg reports. Huntsman will sell its own titanium dioxide business to a Chinese chemical company as a condition of the transaction. The deal will create the world’s second-largest titanium dioxide producer, a business Huntsman plans to spin off. Rockwood in July agreed to be acquired by Albemarle.
-Gulf South Pipeline Co. announced an open season for a 65-mile, 1.4-billion-cubic-feet-per-day pipeline that would serve the Freeport LNG export facility. The open season begins Thursday and ends Oct. 10.
-HollyFrontier Corp. promoted Senior Vice President of Supply & Marketing George Damiris to executive vice president and COO. Damiris joined HollyFrontier in 2007 after an 18-year career at Koch Industries and became head of supply and marketing in 2008.
