-Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson today urged construction unions to “support pro-growth energy policies.” Tillerson said expanded LNG exports and increased oil sands production could add just under a million jobs within the next 20 years. The United Steelworkers on Monday announced it opposes lifting the U.S. ban on crude oil exports.
-Two contractors were splashed with acid on Monday at Tesoro’s refinery near Martinez, Calif. The incident occurred in the same process unit in which two other workers were splashed with acid last month. The men in Monday’s accident suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Tesoro blocked U.S. Chemical Safety Board investigators from entering the refinery after the earlier incident on the grounds that it did not cause serious injury or property damage.
-NRG Energy agreed to buy Dominion Resources’ retail electric business. Dominion’s customer footprint includes the Northeast and Texas — two markets in which NRG is looking to expand. NRG also got approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to acquire the assets of Edison Mission Energy.
-TransCanada’s final argument in support of its proposed Keystone XL pipeline was released today. The Canadian firm said in its filing with the State Department the pipeline would contribute $3.4 billion to the U.S. GDP and prevent injuries and fatalities associated with moving oil via truck or rail. The government's public comment period ended on Friday.
-Exxon Mobil has asked regulators for permission to restart a Texas section of its Pegasus oil pipeline running from Corsicana to Nederland. Last March, a rupture in the Pegasus line near Little Rock, Ark., resulted in oil spilling into the town of Mayflower. Via Reuters, Exxon Mobil says the rupture did not affect the stretch it wants to restart.
