Energy Transfer is set to acquire the Williams Cos. for $37.7 billion in cash and debt. Via FuelFix, it is the second largest energy deal announced this year next to Shell’s $70 billion acquisition of BG Group in April. Williams has been an attractive acquisition target for other midstream firms given its natural gas and liquids assets in the Northeast. It owns the 10,200-mile Transco pipeline, which runs from South Texas to New York City.
Williams rejected a $48 billion buyout offer from Energy Transfer in June, but negotiations carried on.
