Fueled by production growth from unconventional wells, Texas’ pipeline industry contributed $33 billion to the state’s economy and supported more than 165,000 high-paying jobs in 2013, according to a new study by the Texas Pipeline Association. The researchers said the Texas pipeline industry would generate a further $374 billion in total economic output and support 171,000 jobs annually over the next 10 years. The pipeline industry will contribute an additional $212 billion in gross state product and generate $19.5 in state and local government revenues over that same period.
Last month the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported the energy industry drove 3.5% GDP growth in Texas in 2013.
The business and petroleum engineering departments at Texas Tech University conducted the study.
