ExxonMobil cut processing rates at its Baytown, Texas, refinery in the wake of a Monday vessel collision that shut down a stretch of the Houston Ship Channel. Via Bloomberg, ExxonMobil is working with the Port of Houston and the Coast Guard to restart crude deliveries. Company spokeswoman Deedra Moe said ExxonMobil expects to meet the refinery’s contractual commitments.
A four-mile stretch of the channel from light 86 to the Fred Hartman bridge has been closed since Monday afternoon, when a Danish tanker collided with a Liberian bulk carrier The wreck caused the tanker to spill an undetermined amount of MTBE into the channel. The spill prompted a shelter-in-place for residents of the nearby Morgan’s Point community.
