-Phillips 66 on Sunday said it would begin more maintenance work at its Borger, Texas, refinery. Via the Wall Street Journal, Phillips 66 announced seasonal maintenance in other parts of the refinery earlier this month.
-Meanwhile, unplanned outages will have a considerable impact on refiners’ third quarter earnings, which will be announced this week. Via Argus Media, midcontinent and West Coast refiners were hit by equipment malfunctions such as a crude unit shutdown at BP’s Whiting, Indiana, refinery in August and the Plains All American pipeline rupture near Santa Barbara, California, in June. The Plains pipeline incident exacerbated the effect of the February explosion at ExxonMobil’s Torrance, California, refinery on gasoline production on the West Coast.
-Pemex shut the alkylation plant at its Ciudad Madero refinery in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas today after a gas leak was detected, Reuters reports. The company said it also shut down nearby storage tanks as a preventative measure. The leak’s effect on output at the refinery is not yet known.
