-United Arab Emirates is considering importing natural gas from North America, according to a report by Reuters. The OPEC oil producer has become a net importer of gas in recent years due in part to decreased production. Thus far four LNG export projects have been approved in the U.S. and seven have been approved in Canada.
-Independent E&P firm Sanchez Energy boosted its production 60% between the third and fourth quarters of 2013, the company said on Monday. Sanchez announced Jan. 15 it would spend 90% of its $650-700 million capex budget for 2014 in the Eagle Ford shale.
-FuelFix looks at the market for high-horsepower pumps, which is experiencing a shift toward the Permian Basin amid a glut of equipment that sits idle in other shale plays. The report notes Halliburton CEO Dave Lesar’s recent forecast that horizontal rigs will make up 50% of the Permian market (by volume) this year.
-Exxon Mobil reported an equipment failure at its Joliet refinery over the weekend. The company’s filing with regulators did not specify in which unit the incident took place.
-Pepco Holdings CEO Joseph M. Rigby will step down by the end of the year and intends to retire by early 2015. He will remain as board chairman until next year’s annual shareholders’ meeting. Rigby has served as CEO of the Mid-Atlantic energy company for the past five years.
