Gasoline prices in California are surging due in part to problems at some of the state’s refineries, the Los Angeles Times reports. In-state supplies have tightened up since an explosion rocked ExxonMobil’s Torrance refinery in February. According to the Oil Price Information Service, operations may not return to normal there until July. A recent flaring incident at Chevron’s Richmond refinery and minor issues at Tesoro’s Martinez refinery have affected output and spooked traders. Both companies are undergoing maintenance at other refineries they operate in the state.
According to AAA, on Thursday the average cost of regular gasoline in California was $3.53 per gallon.
