BP is planning to shut down a crude unit and an FCCU at its Toledo, Ohio, refinery for up to 70 days of planned maintenance, Reuters reports. The work will help the refinery process more acidic crudes.
The Toledo refinery — a joint venture between BP and Husky Energy — processes a high volume of heavy-sour crudes from the Canadian oil sands. About half of Canada’s oil output has been curtailed due to the wildfires that began more than a week ago and have forced 88,000 people to evacuate the Alberta town of Fort McMurray.
