When Satellite Shelters Inc. opened its doors, it adopted a policy first written by founder Al Hilde Jr. In 1958. This policy outlines how the company conducts business and states Satellite will be a consistently progressive company, always putting the needs of society and its customers first, and that the primary purpose of the company is to provide its customers with the type of quality products and services they desire.
This policy guides the employees of Satellite Shelters and is something they always turn to when making business decisions at every level. It is what drives them to look for ways to make the lives of their customers easier, whether they are delivering products to a job site or providing service on-site.
Products
The industry is compartmentalized when it comes to providing space for industrial operations. Most providers either supply buildings for inside the blast zone or outside of it. However, there are many benefits to working with a full-circle provider that can supply everything you need for your projects.
Satellite has buildings that keep your workforce safe and productive in all zones of a plant or refinery, including blast resistant modules (BRMs), modular buildings, storage containers and mobile offices.
In the early days, BRMs were simply modified “sea containers,” and while they offered a level of protection, there wasn’t enough square footage inside for workers. Today, the industry has diversified away from these containers and now offers reinforced steel BRMs that can withstand a blast but also protect the inhabitants inside.
Satellite offers BRMs in different sizes and configurations, including single-wide, tool-crib, multi-wide and multi-level options. Its standard BRMs have wide-open floor plans but can be customized with private offices, walls, windows, and restrooms. All of Satellite’s BRMs come standard with painted walls, floors and ceilings, surface-mounted electric conduits and outlets, communication junction boxes and an oversized electric HVAC unit with programmable thermostat. They are also outfitted with emergency exit lights, smoke detectors, and exterior LED and wall safety lights.
Single-wide BRMs
Satellite’s single-wide BRMs come in three sizes: 8 feet by 20 feet, 8 feet by 40 feet, and 12 feet by 40 feet, with the 12-foot-by-40-foot model, considered the industry standard. Single-wide BRMs give the flexibility to be scattered throughout a plant in areas with limited space or in work areas that require a small number of employees. One of the benefits of Satellite’s single-wide BRMs is the end-wall entry and exit doors. Because of this unique feature, several units can be placed side-by-side to conserve space on the job site.
Common uses of single-wide BRMs include administrative offices, break rooms and conference rooms, but they can also be outfitted to function as guard houses or even tool distribution centers (i.e., tool cribs).
Tool-crib BRMs
Blast-resistant tool crib modules are designed to give workers an added level of safety to ensure they have protection while working in the blast zone. Satellite’s tool crib modules are built to withstand a blast up to 8 psi, 200 msec in duration and come in one size: 12 feet by 40 feet. They are outfitted with two doors on one end for easy entry and exit access and include built-in shelving, hooks, and counters for the storing and distribution of tools.
Multi-wide and multi-level BRMs
Multi-wide BRMs are created by assembling multiple 12-foot-wide units together to create a single cohesive structure. They can be as small as a double-wide 24-foot-by-40-foot building (created by assembling two 12-foot-wide units together) or upward of a 10-plex or larger (created by assembling 10 or more 12-foot-wide units together).
Multi-wide BRMs from Satellite come with all the same standard features as the single-wide units, with the added benefit of more space. Common uses include lunch rooms, break rooms, conference and meeting spaces, and training rooms, or when a large amount of administrative offices are needed.
Multi-level BRMs are created by stacking multiple 12-foot-wide units on top of each other. Single-wide units are stacked together in a quad formation, but multiwide units can also be stacked to create a two-story structure. With either option, scaffolding is attached to the exterior of the buildings to allow easy access to the second level.
Multi-level BRMs are most commonly used when a customer has limited job site ground space and there’s only one way to go: up. They are a great place for customers who need to conduct all-in-one on-site safety meetings. They can also be used for administrative offices, cafeterias, training rooms, conference rooms and more.
Services
Satellite Shelters prides itself on the products and services it delivers to its customers. The company believes cleanliness and maintenance start from day one and continue throughout the lifetime of the building. Before any building is delivered to a customer, Satellite goes through an over 50-point inspection process to ensure it meets the company’s “ready-to-go” standards. From wiping down the walls and dusting the electric conduits to sweeping and re-waxing the floors, Satellite wants its customers to be completely satisfied with the units it delivers. The employees take great pride in their workmanship and double-check to make sure everything is functioning the way that it should.
Here are some examples of the other services Satellite provides:
- Refurbishing and repairs of customer- owned buildings
- On-site mobilization and demobilization walk-throughs
- Turnkey products, including furniture, fire extinguishers, etc.
- Relocation services
- HVAC service agreements
Satellite believes customer satisfaction comes from understanding the client’s wants and needs and providing a solution that works within them. Asking the right questions in order to uncover the true need becomes imperative.
