-ONEOK announced it completed the separation of its natural gas distribution business. Shares of the new firm, known as ONE Gas, were distributed Jan. 31. ONEOK also appointed Terry Spencer as its president and CEO, filling a vacancy created by the retiring John W. Gibson.
-PPG agreed to buy Boxborough, Mass.-based Hi-Temp Coatings Technology Co. The company being acquired is a supplier of coatings that protect carbon steel and stainless steel substrates in extreme temperatures. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
-A Canadian National Railway train carrying fuel oil derailed near Hattiesburg, Miss., Sunday, spilling product and forcing evacuations. It is the latest in a string of incidents that have drawn heightened scrutiny to the burgeoning oil and gas rail transport industry. A CN train carrying crude oil and propane derailed and caught fire in New Brunswick, Canada, Jan. 7.
-The Houston Business Journal reported Friday that Port of Houston Authority Executive Director Len Waterworth unexpectedly resigned from his post. The port has named Deputy Director of Operations Roger Guenther as Waterworth’s permanent replacement. Waterworth’s resignation comes amid a flurry of industry expansion along the Houston Ship Channel.
