Production at Husky Energy’s 155,000-barrel-per-day Lima, Ohio, refinery has been suspended after a Saturday morning explosion involving the plant’s isocracker unit. Via Reuters, no injuries were reported, but fires continued to burn into Saturday evening. All of Husky’s personnel have been accounted for. Husky said in a statement today plans are being advanced to resume operations and that the refinery can operate without the isocracker unit.
Husky was in the process of restarting the 26,000-barrel-per-day isocracker unit, which had been shut down for maintenance, when the blast occurred. The explosion caused significant damage to the unit and a nearby ultraformer. The isocracker unit was previously damaged in a fire in 2009.
