An explosion was reported at ExxonMobil’s Torrance, Calif., refinery this morning. Local media outlets reported minor injuries and structural damage in the area where the blast occurred. ExxonMobil said it activated emergency procedures to address the incident and is in the process of accounting for all personnel.
UPDATE: Via the Washington Post, ExxonMobil said four of its contractors went to the hospital with minor injuries. Local police said there was no chemical release, but nearby residents were ordered to shelter in place. ExxonMobil detected no harmful emissions in the wake of the explosion.
