Canada’s National Energy Board has approved Kinder Morgan’s $4.1 billion plan to expand a 715-mile oil and refined products pipeline in western Canada. The project would boost the company’s Trans Mountain pipeline’s capacity from 300,000 barrels per day to 890,000 barrels per day. The pipeline runs from Edmonton, Alberta, to Burnaby, British Columbia.
The board’s approval is contingent on 157 conditions that Kinder Morgan said are “achievable.” The Canadian government is expected to make a final decision on the project in December. Kinder Morgan said construction could follow in 2017, with startup expected in 2019.
