When a disaster strikes, whether it be man-made or caused by Mother Nature, private companies and governments alike have been turning to Garner Environmental Services for years to help with their response and recovery efforts. Established in 1981, Garner is a pioneer of the emergency response industry and continues to be a leader in the industry. Garner’s commitment to extensive and proper training of personnel has led us to achieve more than 2.8 million man-hours since our last lost-time accident, which is an industry best.
Garner has had the opportunity over the years to build one of the most complete inventories of emergency and spill response equipment in the industry and through our successes we have been able to upgrade this equipment. One won’t find a more impressive inventory of equipment in the industry. More important than our equipment is the long list of experienced employees Garner is proud to have. Many of these employees have more than 20 years of experience with Garner and their loyalty to the company is indicative to the pride and dedication that will be exhibited on every job we perform.
In June 2012, Garner opened an office in Williston, N.D., due to the ever-expanding oil exploration and production activities in that area. Although opening an office in a remote location has its challenges ranging from a lack of manpower to extreme winters, Garner proved it had what it takes to meet those challenges. The manpower issue was primarily overcome by hiring additional employees in its Texas offices and rotating them every three weeks to North Dakota. This was especially successful in that we didn’t have major issues related to high turnover such as training.
Disaster response
Garner’s Disaster Response group primarily responds to natural disasters and has a long list of satisfied customers, both public and private, which have had the misfortune of being hit by one of the many recent storms. Just in the past year, our responses to Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana and Hurricane Sandy in the northeast kept this group very busy. Many of our responders stayed on the road, working seven days per week for several months, in order to help restore order in New York City after Sandy. Our teams were responsible for handling the logistics on thousands of pieces of equipment ranging from water pumping operations to electricity for housing complexes and we are proud of the results we delivered to that region during this crisis.
Training and rescue
The Training and Rescue division of Garner continues to provide our customers with one of the best and most experienced staffs in the industry. This group of experienced trainers and rescue teams not only has certificates that make them qualified, they actually are responders themselves and have real-world experience. This is extremely beneficial when customers want tailor-made training courses that will reflect a scenario they are more likely to encounter.
