AmTech Tank Lining and Tank Repair offers DuraChem 590 tank lining systems, which are specifically formulated to tackle even the harshest of containment challenges. The DuraChem 590 systems are state-of-the-art, 100-percent solids instant cure tank linings that are capable of standing up to even the toughest conditions.
As industry physical plant managers are well aware, the storage of liquids at varying temperatures and concentrations can be challenging for many traditional substrates, coatings and linings. Over time, acidic and alkaline liquids can erode, corrode and emulsify, eventually affecting the structural integrity of a tank or its coating, and dramatically reducing its serviceable life. DuraChem 590 linings extend the life of new or existing wastewater, chemical or petroleum containment vessels through “best-in-class” poly lining technology.
“Our DuraChem 590 lining products are thick, durable systems with adhesion characteristics up to 1000 psi,” said Jeff Colner, vice president of operations for AmTech. “Sprayed up at high temperature, it cures in a matter of minutes, bonding to the tank substrate. Unlike some thin mil coatings, DuraChem products don’t bubble up and chip off. They flex with the tank substrate, sort of like your mother’s Tupperware®.”
Blended for chemical immersion, DuraChem 590 has elongation characteristics of more than 500 percent and has similar flex modulus and adhesion characteristics like those found in the other DuraChem 500 series linings, such as DuraChem 580. DuraChem 500 series products are designed to cure instantly when applied, thus minimizing costly downtime.
In the past, applying thin mil linings, like an epoxy, was the standard for interior tank coating. These processes can be less tolerant of harsh tank environments and can disbond over time, creating pockets of lining weakness.
“Over time, thin mil layers can peel away,” Colner said. “All it takes is one small area to become disbonded, creating a bubble. Eventually the bubble ruptures, exposing the tank substrate. Just like when your car paint gets a deep scratch, it may seem like nothing but over time it can rust and you could have bigger problems, like osmotic blistering.”
In 2005, when a wastewater treatment plant in the Southern United States faced major containment issues, it called in AmTech. Four newly installed fiberglass laminate tanks were unable to provide a sealed storage environment, and after repeated manufacturer attempts to repair the tanks on site failed, AmTech recommended and installed a DuraChem 590 lining. The DuraChem lining instantly bonded to the fiberglass, protecting the existing substrate and establishing a safe sealed storage environment. The installation was completed with minimal facility disruption, and is expected to extend the original expected service life of the tanks by more than 15 years.
With more than 30 years of experience tackling tough tank issues, AmTech is a leading name in tank lining. Offering a wide range of repair and lining services for industrial, municipal and commercial tanks nationwide, AmTech’s experienced technicians provide scheduled and emergency service throughout the United States and Canada. In addition to DuraChem 590, AmTech offers tank lining and repair solutions for potable water, fire suppression water, wastewater, chemicals, oil, gasoline, fuel and petroleum product containment.
