Calgary-based Veresen Inc. has received final environmental approval from U.S. federal authorities to build its $7 billion Jordan Cove LNG export facility in Coos Bay, Oregon. Via the Calgary Herald, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) said the project would cause some limited adverse environmental impacts that could be mitigated through certain efforts. Veresen expects to get a notice to proceed from FERC in mid-2016.
The facility would receive more than 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day and produce up to 6.8 million tons per year of LNG. The gas will be delivered via pipeline from Canada and the Rocky Mountain region.
FERC has approved the construction of six LNG projects thus far. Jordan Cove LNG is on track to be the first on the West Coast to win final approval.
