PPG is planning to expand precipitated silica production capacity at its Lake Charles, Louisiana, plant by 10,000 tons per year due to growing demand, the company announced today. Anup Jain, PPG’s vice president of specialty coatings and materials, said the expansion would be carried out through debottlenecking projects that are currently underway. Those projects are expected to come online by the second half of the year.
PPG previously increased silica capacity at the Lake Charles plant by 22,000 tons per year via two projects that came online in 2012 and 2014, respectively. The company said it is evaluating additional silica expansion projects in North America and Europe.
