M&G Chemicals today announced it would expand the capacity of the PET and PTA facility it is building in Corpus Christi, Texas. M&G will add an extra 100 kMT of integrated PET capacity to the original 1,000 kMT planned and increase PTA capacity by the corresponding amount. Initial PTA capacity was 1,200 kMT.
Company CEO Marco Ghisolfi said the capacity expansions were made to boost the plants’ efficiency and displace current imports from Mexico.
The facility is expected to start up in the second half of 2016, though M&G said suppliers of critical equipment for the PTA plant are experiencing delays.
