LSB Industries on Tuesday said a new 375,000-ton ammonia plant it is building at its El Dorado, Arkansas, site is mechanically complete. The new plant is part of a nearly $900 million expansion project at El Dorado that also includes a new nitric acid plant built last year. Company CEO Daniel Greenwell said the new ammonia plant would begin production in the second quarter.
LSB said it had installed process vessels, rotating equipment and utility equipment systems along with all associated piping and valves for the ammonia plant. Construction will be complete after LSB connects electronic instrumentation wiring, paints and insulate piping and process vessels and completes final grading and concrete containment for proper drainage of the process area.
