Dow Chemical has begun operations at a new propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit at its Oyster Creek site in Freeport, Texas, the company announced today. Dow said the 750 KTA unit is the largest on-demand propylene facility of its kind.
Dow also said it is making “significant progress” on a world-scale ethylene unit and derivative investments in its Gulf Coast performance plastics business.
Last week Dow agreed to a $130 billion deal to merge with DuPont. The combined company will split into three separate companies after the deal closes. Dow’s performance plastics unit will be integrated into a $51 billion material science company that will also include DuPont’s performance materials segment.
