ExxonMobil has selected Darren W. Woods to succeed Rex Tillerson as its president, effective Jan. 1. Woods currently serves as senior vice president, a position he has held since June 2014.
Woods joined Exxon Company International in 1992 and went on to serve in various domestic and international positions for ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Co., ExxonMobil Chemical Co. and Exxon Company International. He also served as manager of investor relations for ExxonMobil. Woods was appointed president of ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Co. in 2012.
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Woods has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Tillerson will continue to serve as CEO and chairman of the board, though he will reach the company's mandatory retirement age of 65 in 2017.
