Operators at ExxonMobil’s Beaumont, Texas, refinery burned product following a sitewide power outage on Thursday. Via the Beaumont Enterprise, the resulting release of smoke prompted class cancellations and a shelter-in-place order at Lamar University and the Lamar Institute of Technology. A spokesman for the refinery said no one was injured and that non-essential personnel were dismissed from the site.
Reuters reported last week ExxonMobil plans to shut the smaller of two crude units at the Beaumont refinery for a 90-day turnaround beginning in April.
