The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) recently introduced a pathway to a more efficient, reliable and productive energy system during the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners' meeting in Washington. The unveiling included key actions -- technology development, policy, regulation and standards -- to make that future a reality. At its core, the Integrated Energy Network:
- Recognizes increasing interdependency among electric, gas, thermal systems, storage and natural resources.
- Identifies wireless connected technologies as instrumental to integrated energy systems.
- Builds on the Integrated Grid, which enables optimal integration of cleaner generation.
- Points to efficient electrification as a cornerstone for environmental as well as productivity and safety improvements.
