Bilfinger Westcon Inc. (BWI) has been awarded additional work scope for US Methanol's Liberty One Methanol LLC facility in West Virginia.
Bilfinger won the initial contract in 2017 to rebuild a deconstructed methanol plant relocated from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to its current site in Institute, West Virginia. The new award greatly expands the original scope, which included site preparation, piling, foundation, equipment and steel installation, adding 100 cubic yards of concrete; 93,000 linear feet of piping installation; and installation of compressor building siding, roofing and ridge vent. The major upgrades, repairs and modifications will deliver increased efficiency and an anticipated useful life of 30 years.
When the plant begins production in the fourth quarter of 2020, Liberty One is expected to produce 200,000 metric tons of methanol per year, taking advantage of abundant gas supplies from the Marcellus and Utica shale fields.
"We're excited to be awarded this addition to our original contract, as it validates the hard work and commitment to customer satisfaction our construction teams have delivered thus far," said Mark Parsons, president and CEO of BWI. "We look forward to building on our strong relationship with US Methanol as we drive toward on-time completion of this very important project."
US Methanol CEO Frank Bakker concurred, adding, "By awarding the mechanical bid package to Westcon, we will continue our successful partnership, working safe and working together to reach our goal of achieving first methanol in October 2020."
