Magnum Hunter Resources subsidiary Triad Hunter lost control of a natural gas well in Monroe County, Ohio, on Saturday. Magnum Hunter on Sunday said the Stalder 3UH well began to flow uncontrollably after being temporarily plugged and abandoned in preparation for the drilling of other wells. Triad Hunter workers were removing the well’s night cap flange when a pressure disruption occurred. They were not able to safely bolt the equipment back down.
Magnum said it had alerted authorities and evacuated field personnel and residents in the immediate area. No injuries have been reported. A contractor is on site to begin well control operations.
