-A Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) official on Monday told attendees at an industry conference that tank emissions at oil and gas sites have been lower than the commission’s estimates. Via Platts, Erin Selvera of the TCEQ’s air permits division said the commission recorded visible emissions from only 5% of the tanks observed during a flyover last summer. TCEQ examined more than 16,000 tanks in 23 Texas counties.
-BP officials said an oil leak at its Whiting, Ind., refinery sent a small amount of crude into Lake Michigan on Monday afternoon. Cleanup crews arrived at the scene in the wee hours of this morning, and no oil sheen was visible on the lake as of 8:30 a.m. There was no official announcement as to how much oil was discharged.
-Double Eagle Petroleum is changing its name to Escalera Resources, effective April 1. The E&P firm also appointed Charles F. Chambers chairman and CEO. A 40-year veteran of the upstream oil and gas business, Chambers most recently managed upstream business activities for Castleton Commodities International. He succeeds Richard D. Dole, who led the company’s CEO search and will become vice chairman of the board for Escalera.
