Louisiana authorities are investigating a Saturday explosion at a Chevron offshore natural gas platform that killed one worker and injured two others. Via the Associated Press, Chevron Pipe Line Co. was still releasing gas from the platform on Sunday as the Louisiana State Police and the Coast Guard made plans to send a joint team to the site. A Chevron spokesman said the company believes a valve blowout caused the accident. Chevron has monitors on the site and is performing regular fly-overs.
The accident occurred around 11 a.m. Saturday morning near Marsh Island. The deceased worker and the two injured workers all worked for a contractor.
