Brazilian firm Braskem last week announced the inauguration of its new $5.2 billion, 1.05-million-ton ethylene and polyethylene plant in Mexico. The company said in a statement the plant — built in partnership with Mexico’s Idesa — is the largest-ever greenfield investment ever made by a Brazilian firm abroad. It will boost Braskem’s global thermoplastic resins production capacity to 8.7 million tons.
The complex comprises an ethylene-based gas cracker and three polyethylene plants — two for high-density polyethylene and one for linear low-density polyethylene.
